Northeastern State's baseball season got underway at noon today, and it revealed the RiverHawks' new lineup for 2014.
Kyle Shambaugh, a left-handed junior from Jay, got the start on the mound for the RiverHawks, who opened at Harding after having a doubleheader at Southeastern Oklahoma State postponed on Tuesday. A transfer from Eastern Oklahoma State College, Shambaugh posted a 4-2 mark with a 4.73 earned run average in 2013.
NSU's opening day lineup featured seven returning players from 2013. Headlining the group was Cody Robinson in center field and Kyle Singleton in left field. The duo both smacked 16 home runs in 2013, which tied them for second in the nation in home runs last season.
Also back for the RiverHawks in the opening day lineup was David Weber (right field), Cayle Shambaugh (designated hitter), Ryan Staggs (third base), Preston Cash (first base) and Tyler Wilkins (catcher).
Newcomers Dante Broome (shortstop) and Mitch Stevenson (second base) rounded out the RiverHawks' lineup in the Nos. 2 and 3 spots in the lineup.
Weber was slotted in the lead-off spot, while Robinson and Singleton were hitting clean-up and fifth, respectively.
