Lady Indians fall to Heritage Hall in state quarterfinals

BETHANY — Despite a gutsy effort from Audrey Ballou, Class 3A No. 5 Sequoyah dropped a 39-35 decision against No. 9 Heritage Hall in the quarterfinals of the 3A state tournament on Thursday night at Southern Nazarene University.

In front a raucous crowd at the Sawyer Center, Ballou led Sequoyah (25-3) with nine points. She did so without an anterior cruciate ligament in one of her knees that she injured against Keys in the district round of the playoffs. Ballou had missed every other playoff game leading up to the state tournament, including an area tournament victory over Vian, which helped Sequoyah claim its state tournament spot.

Cenia Hayes and Sierra Polk both added seven points for the Lady Indians.

Erika Wakefield led all scorers in the game with 14 points for Heritage Hall (20-5). Madi Moore poured in 10 points for the Lady Chargers, who will take on the Adair/Hugo winner on Friday.
