Tahlequah debuts at No. 1 in softball poll

There were eight first-place votes handed out in the first Class 5A fastpitch softball poll released on Tuesday. Tahlequah didn’t receive a single bid for being No. 1.

That didn’t stop Tahlequah from finding itself atop the poll when it was finally unveiled.

The Lady Tigers (6-0) received 115 points and edged out Chickasha — who had six first-place votes — for the top spot. The Fighting Chicks were second followed by Lawton MacArthur, Carl Albert (two first-place votes) and Piedmont. Claremore, Deer Creek, Duncan, Collinsville and Durant rounded out the top 10.

In 3A, Sequoyah debuted at No. 3, despite 16 first-place votes. Washington (seven first-place votes) is the top-ranked team followed by Davis (four first-place votes).

Much like Tahlequah in 5A, Moore also is the top team in 6A without any first-place votes. Broken Arrow is two points behind the Lady Lions with six first-place votes.

In volleyball, Sequoyah landed at the No. 4 spot in Class 4A. Elgin (11 first-place votes), Cache (seven first-place votes) and Weatherford (two first-place votes) made up the top three. Sequoyah did receive two first-place votes.

In 5A, Tahlequah is at No. 14.
