Glover sends Fort Gibson to 2nd straight title

Fort Gibson girls claim third championship in four years with victory over Anadarko

From Staff reports

— OKLAHOMA CITY — Desiree Phipps and Savannah Gray did the heavy lifting. Allie Glover did the dagger burying.

Glover buried 3-pointer from straight on — and well behind the 3-point line — to send Class 4A No. 1 Fort Gibson to its second straight state championship, beating Anadarko 50-47 at State Fair Arena on Saturday.

Third-ranked Anadarko (26-5) led by as many 16 late in the third quarter, but Fort Gibson came storming back in the final period. With Anadarko getting complacent on offense, Fort Gibson went on a 15-2 run to go from down 12 (42-30) to up 1 (45-44) with 1:27 left.

Ashley Beatty, who finished with a game-high 18 points for the Lady Warriors, put Anadarko on top, 46-45, with two free throws with 1:12 left. Fort Gibson answered with Desiree Phipps' baby hook shot in th lane to put the Lady Tigers up 47-46 with 38 seconds left.

On Anadarko's next possession, Cara Osceola missed a 3-pointer, but Kelsey Schumpert corralled the rebound and was fouled on the way up. Schumpert then made one of two free throws to knot the game at 47 with 12 seconds left.

After a timeout by Fort Gibson (30-1), Gray dribbled down the court and passed to Glover about seven feet beyond the arc. Glover went right into her shooting motion and drained the long-range shot from five feet behind the 3-point line.

A desperation heave by Beatty at the buzzer was off the mark, and Fort Gibson won its third championship in four years.

Phipps, a transfer from Tahlequah, led Fort Gibson with 17 points, and Gray added 11 points and eight rebounds.
