Serge Ibaka bares all in ESPN Magazine issue

Serge Ibaka broke new ground the Oklahoma City Thunder. While teammates Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook get most of the attention from the media, it was the 6-10 forward who was asked to pose nude in the latest installment of ESPN The Magazine Body Issue. The section is titled the “Bodies We Want.”

The magazine was released Monday on the internet and will hit the newsstands Friday. Ibaka was featured in the special issue along with 21 other athletes. They include Michael Phelps (swimming), Venus Williams (tennis), Marshawn Lynch (football), Larry Fitzgerald (football), Prince Fielder (baseball), Bernard Hopkins (boxing), Jimmy Spithill (sailing), Tomas Berdych (tennis), Nigel Sylvester (BMX), Omar Gonzalez (soccer), Travis and Lyn-z Pastrana (action sports/X-games), Jamie Anderson (snowboarding), Amy Purdy (Para-Olympics), Danyelle Wolf (boxing), Aja Evans (bobsled), Hillary Knight (hockey), Megan Rapinoe (USA soccer), Angel McCoughtry (WNBA), Coco Ho (surfing) and Ginger Huber (cliff diving).

Ibaka is the only NBA player in this year’s edition, but he’s not the first. The likes of Tyson Chandler, John Wall, Kenneth Faried, Dwight Howard and Amare Stoudemire.

Along with the photos of Ibaka baring it all, there is a story that details coming back from injury during the postseason and his faith. But he also talks about the work he puts in to get his body in shape.

“It’s much easier to get a six-pack if you’re short,” Ibaka said. “[Tall people] have long, long muscles, so to get a six-pack to come out is hard. I’ve been working on my six-pack for 10 years now. It’s tough.”
