Durant signs with Jay-Z’s Roc Nation agency

State briefs

Kevin Durant has become the first NBA star to sign with Jay-Z’s Roc Nation agency.

Durant posted a photo on social media Monday of himself and the rap mogul with the paperwork. Jay-Z became certified as a representative by the NBA players’ association last week.

A quote attributed to Durant above the picture says he’s “grateful for this opportunity with Roc Nation Sports. It’s go time.”

The Oklahoma City star and Olympic gold medalist — who had a field goal percentage over 50, a 3-point percentage over 40 and a free-throw percentage over 90 — leaves agent Rob Pelinka to sign with Roc Nation.

“He has a 90.5 free throw shooting rate, the youngest player in NBA history to join the 50-40-90 club, a giving individual and a legend in the making. What more can I say?” reads the quote attributed to Jay-Z, whose real name is Shawn Carter.

Johnson gets WNBA honors

NEW YORK — Angel McCoughtry of the Atlanta Dream and Glory Johnson of the Tulsa Shock were named the WNBA’s Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Week, respectively, for games played last week.

McCoughtry led Atlanta to a 78-77 road win over Connecticut on June 23 with 34 points, which tied the highest single-game output in the WNBA this season. She also added five rebounds, three steals, two assists and a career-high-tying 14 made field goals in the win.

Johnson recorded two double-doubles last week while averaging 17.3 points and a Western Conference-best 10.0 rebounds as Tulsa recorded a 2-1 mark. The second-year player scored 14 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to help Tulsa top Chicago, 83-74, and added another 14 points and 12 boards as the Shock defeated Seattle, 92-70.  Johnson capped the week with a game-high 24 points and eight rebounds in an loss at conference-leading Minnesota.
