PARK HILL - A funeral for Daniel Neill Pulliam Sr., age 71, will be held on Friday, Aug. 29, 1 p.m. in the Cookson United Methodist Church, with Rev. Marilynn Schellhamer officiating.

The family will hold a formal visitation from 4-6 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 28, in Hart Funeral Home. Interment will follow at the Akins Cemetery in Sequoyah County. Services have been entrusted to Hart Funeral Home of Tahlequah.

Daniel Neill Pulliam was born the son of Loren Reid and Sybil (Daniels) Pulliam on October 2, 1936 in Watts. After completing high school in Tahlequah, he attended Oklahoma University, where he received his bachelor degree in aeronautical engineering and subsequently received his master’s degree in aeronautical administration, from Oklahoma State University.

Dan also served for six years in the United States Marine Corp Reserves. On August 2, 1960, Dan married the love of his life, Patricia J. Lessley, in Tahlequah. This union was blessed with three sons, Neill, Darrell and Lessley.

Dan raised his family in Broken Arrow and worked as an aeronautical engineer for the McDonnell Douglas Company, in Tulsa, where he enjoyed working on F-15 fighters and the space shuttle – a job he held for over thirty years.

When he wasn’t working, Dan enjoyed taking his family to Pettit Bay on Lake Tenkiller, and in 1994, he and Pat built a home and retired at Pettit Bay. Dan was a man of many talents. He was gifted with designing, planning and building projects such as his son’s houses, decks, barns, and cabinets.

He enjoyed gardening and approached the design of his garden as though it were an aircraft project – with precision.

He raised beautiful vegetables that he shared with his family, friends and neighbors. Dan was happiest when he was home on the hill, spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. He was Methodist by faith and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Tahlequah.

On Monday, Aug. 25, 2008, Dan, with family at his side, departed his “home on the hill” to be with his Lord and Savior. His family and friends will greatly miss his presence in their lives.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Loren (Nick) Pulliam.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Pat, of the home; son, Neill and wife, Sheri Pulliam, and children Brittni Hackler and Gentri Pulliam, of Catoosa, son Darrell and wife, Amy Pulliam, and children Jake Pulliam and Johna Pulliam, of Catoosa, and son, Lessley, and wife, Shellie Pulliam, and children Jesse Williams and Jaeton Williams, of Kansas, Okla.

Dan’s surviving brother is John and his wife, Pat Pulliam, of Tahlequah, and brother-in-law, Paul, and wife, Sophronia Lessley, of Pettit Bay. Dan was “Pa Pa” to six adored grandchildren, seven nieces and nephews, 16 great-nieces and nephews, three grand dogs and two grand cats, and many special friends and loved ones.
