Cherokee County's unemployment rate slightly decreased for the month of August, compared to July figures.
According to data released by the Oklahoma Employment Security Commission, Cherokee County's jobless rate fell from 4.8 percent in July, to 4.3 percent in August.
Cherokee County reported a labor force of 19,059 in August, up 48 from the previous month. The number of people claiming unemployment in July was 910, while the number cited in August was 823.
August jobless rates for surrounding counties include 4.2 in Adair County, 3.7 percent in Delaware County, 3.5 percent in Mayes County, 4.1 percent in Muskogee County, 4.3 percent in Sequoyah County, and 3.4 percent in Wagoner County.
Statewide in August, Latimer County had the highest county unemployment rate of 6.1 percent. McIntosh County had the second-highest rate for the month, with 5.9 percent, while McCurtain County had the third-highest with 5.7 percent. Grant County claimed the lowest county unemployment rate of 1.8 percent.
