A man stole $537.08 worth of cigarettes and $87.50 worth of lighters after a Dollar General break-in.
Cherokee County Sheriff's Office Deputy John Berry was called to Dollar General on Highway 51 after someone reported the front door window was shattered on May 28.
After Berry saw the shattered window, he called for a store manager to walk the building and to assess the rest of the building. They watched camera footage of a man shattering the window with a hammer and entering the store.
"A male subject with a dark hoodie, jeans, something camouflage covering his face, and a head light entered the store," said Berry. "He went to the counter and started trying to steal cigarettes and then left."
The man came back several times in a span of two hours and ended up stealing 78 packs of cigarettes and 50 lighters.
"I collected the broken hammer used to break the door and the four-way tire tool that was used to pry open the cigarette case," said Berry.
The store's alarm was set but did not go off.
