TAHLEQUAH – Cherokee County Election Board Secretary Connie Parnell announced Wednesday that the run-off election for a Keys school board seat would be between Randy Jones and Jewell Linville.

Jones beat three other candidates during Tuesday’s voting to win 45 percent of the votes in the election, but both Linville and John W. Mouse won 66 votes to tie for runner-up.

Parnell said that on Wednesday, Mouse withdrew from the race. Had he not done so, a special meeting of the election board would have been held, and the winning runner-up candidate would have been decided by a draw of names from a hat (or some other such suitable container).

“We’re not the only county where this happened in yesterday’s school board elections,” Parnell said. “But when you have that few voters, and several candidates running for the same office, the possibility is increased.”
