STILWELL – An Adair County man faces two felony charges after allegedly beating his father and taking his cell phone.

Jack Walker, 32, was charged Wednesday in Adair County District Court with aggravated assault and battery and robbery by force and fear. An arrest warrant was issued for Walker, whose bond has been set at $6,000.

Court documents state officers arrived at the victim’s home and could tell he’d been beaten.

An affidavit states Westville police were called to a domestic dispute April 13 at the Countryside Mobile Home Park, where they found a visibly shaken Carl Walker, 71. Carl had a scrape by his left temple and a cut above his left eye. He also had a large bump near his right temple and had been bleeding from the nose and mouth.

The affidavit states Carl told officers that while he was lying on the floor, his son assaulted him. Jack then allegedly took his father’s cell phone and left the residence to avoid being arrested.

Aggravated assault and battery is punishable by a fine of up to $500 and/or imprisonment for up to five years or a year in the county jail. Robbery by force and fear is punishable by imprisonment for not less than 10 years. Assistant District Attorney Josh King is prosecuting the case.

A preliminary hearing will be set for Jack Walker when he’s formally arraigned.
