Cherokee County prosecutors have charged a man for assault on a police officer, escape from arrest or detention, and obstructing an officer.

Jeron Lee Miller, 26, faces the felony count of assault upon a police officer after he took a swing at Ranger Bryan Qualls on Nov. 24, during the performance of Qualls' duties at a traffic stop.

According to court documents, Miller's attempted assault barely missed Qualls' head.

The misdemeanor count of escape from arrest or detention alleges Miller fled from Qualls after he was detained during the stop. The misdemeanor count of obstructing an officer charges Miller with giving a false name to Qualls.

Assault on a police officer is punishable by a fine of up to $500 or five years in prison, or both. Escape from arrest or detention is punishable by one year in prison and/or a fine up to $500.

Obstructing an officer is punishable by up to a year in prison and/or up to $500 fine, or both.
