Local police jailed a man Saturday morning after a pursuit that cut through some yards on the north side of the city.

Jacob Reynolds, 18, was booked for DUI, driving under suspension, eluding an officer, leaving the scene of a property damage accident and no insurance. He allegedly admitted drinking a large quantity of beer prior to his arrest.

Capt. Tom Jones noticed Reynolds following his patrol vehicle at a close distance on Allen Road and activated its emergency lights. He stopped the patrol car in the roadway and walked back to tell the driver it was against the law to follow a vehicle that closely.

When Reynolds backed his vehicle rapidly on Allen Road, Jones ran back to his patrol car to notify TPD dispatcher he was in pursuit. Reynolds’ car plowed through several yards on Allen Road and eventually headed south on Grand Avenue. He then made his way back to Grand and Allen, where Sheriff’s Deputy Waylon Tarkington got involved in the chase.

Reynolds’ vehicle hit a chain-link fence at 505 E. Allen Road and came to rest on a phone junction box. Reynolds jumped out of the vehicle and ran into the woods. Tarkington and Jones chased Reynolds and Tarkington caught Reynolds 50 yards from his vehicle.
