A man charged this week with failing to register as a sex offender in Cherokee County was arrested in Muskogee.
Sheriff’s Investigator James Brown said Jimmy Ray Mendenhall Jr., 32, was arrested in Muskogee on the Cherokee County charge. He was brought to the Cherokee County Detention Center. Brown said he has learned Mendenhall is currently registered as a sex offender in Muskogee County, but was not registered in Cherokee County between Dec. 2, 2010, and Feb. 23, 2011, when he was allegedly living in Cherokee County.
Mendenhall is on probation in Muskogee County on a failure to notify address change charge. A $5,000 bond was set on his Cherokee County warrant.
The conviction that required Mendenhall to have to register was a lewd acts or proposals to a child case in Muskogee County. He is listed on Department of Corrections records as having to register for life.
