A Stilwell man died Thursday morning in a single-vehicle crash north of the city.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol has identified the victim as Robert Potter, 53.

Potter, who died at the scene of massive injuries, was driving a 1998 GMC truck.

OHP reports indicate that Potter was northbound on U.S. Highway 59 when his vehicle ran off the right side of the road, and he overcorrected. Potter then veered off the left side of the road and plunged down an embankment before hitting a tree.

OHP troopers said Potter was not wearing a seat belt. The air bag in his vehicle did deploy. The crash was reported at 9:25 a.m. Thursday and occurred 5.2 miles north of Stilwell on U.S. 59.

OHP Trooper Cody Cross investigated the crash, assisted by Stilwell Fire and Rescue.
