A woman was killed when she was struck by a dump truck on East Downing Street and Bertha Parker Bypass on Tuesday afternoon.

Tahlequah Police Chief Nate King confirmed that it was a dump truck that struck the woman, though earlier reports indicated it was a semi-tractor trailor.

The victim had been walking westbound on the south side of Downing Street, and the truck was northbound on the Bypass. As the truck began to turn right onto Downing, the woman stepped in front of the vehicle.

Witnesses began CPR on the victim, but EMS personnel pronounced her dead at the scene. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol has possession of the truck's black box to help discern what happened.

King expected to release the victim's name Wednesday after family members are notified.
