A 63-year-old man was airlifted to Tulsa Wednesday morning after his neighbor allegedly shot him in the face.

Tahlequah Police Chief Nate King confirmed Wednesday afternoon that Larry Pfeil forced his way into the home of Taylor Burnett and brandished a knife after a dispute between the neighbors.

The two men made their way outside, where Burnett shot Pfeil in the face.

“He’s still alive, talking and alert,” said Tahlequah Police Lt. Steve Arnall shortly after the shooting.

Pfeil was taken by EMT to Tahlequah Municipal Airport and was then transported by helicopter to a Tulsa hospital.

Both the victim and the suspect called 911 around 9:20 a.m. after the incident happened at 903 W. Choctaw St.

Burnett was detained at the scene, but was later released.

King said the department will continue to investigate the incident from all angles, and plans to turn the case over to the District Attorney’s office sometime next week.
