When convicted sex offender Donald French was found to be living in a tent near the Illinois River in July, authorities arrested him for failing to register as required by Oklahoma law.
Now, after nearly four months, a Cherokee County judge has issued a warrant for French’s arrest, alleging he has once again failed to register as a sex offender.
According to court documents, a $50,000 bail has been set for French on an application to revoke a previous sentence.
The warrant orders law enforcement authorities to take French into custody when found.
Cherokee County Sheriff’s Investigator James Brown said French had provided authorities with an address on State Highway 82 when he registered as a sex offender in June. Later, he confessed to investigators he did not live at the address he provided, but instead had been living out of a tent at the river after a previous stay in jail. Court records show French was convicted of lewd molestation; after his conviction, he was charged with failing to register as a sex offender several other times.
