Editor, Daily Press:

This is in response to Steve Fair's June 26 column.

Right off the bat, the person chosen used the "Democrat" instead of our preferred "Democratic" party designation, one often used by Republicans in a pejorative sense.

I would have much preferred a Democrat suggest what we might expect and to characterize the issues in a more positive way, and ask the reader to look for certain topics as they affect us all - especially climate change, health care, income inequality and budget deficits projected to continue to grow for our kids and grandkids.

As for his reference to "free stuff," we all know nothing is free so what he could have said was to listen for and examine policies that address the over $1 trillion in student debt and how to pay for it, improved access to health care and how to pay for it.

The current president may be part of the equation, but as a Democrat, I'll be looking for policies that will help with the above-listed issues, as well as aspects of character that will help us be more united, and hopefully replace the current occupant of the White House in 2020 with a person of goodwill and who is honest and trustworthy.
