Bandits Blake Cantrell

Oklahoma Bandits pitcher Blake Cantrell threw a complete game in Sunday’s 8-7 win against Springfield Hillcrest. He had eight strikeouts in the game.

The Oklahoma Bandits won Sunday in a consolation bracket game over Springfield Hillcrest 8-7 and lost to Rogers, Arkansas 7-4 in the final game of pool play on Saturday in the Glen Winget Tournament in Bartlesville.

In Sunday’s game against Hillcrest, the Bandits scored first as Shay Richart led off with a walk, then scored on an error for a 1-0 lead.

Hillcrest then took a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the inning, but the Bandits added four runs in the second inning.

Levi Keeton led off with a single, then four straight walks followed. Blake Cantrell’s walk scored Keeton, then Richart walked to send Derek Spencer home to tie the score 3-3.

Matt Crawley reached on a fielder's choice to score Shane Wesley to give the Bandits the 4-3 lead. Chase Goodnight followed with a single to score Crawley and give the Bandits a 5-3 advantage.

Hillcrest scored two in the bottom to tie the score at five, then scored two more in the third to take a 7-5 lead.

The Bandits rallied in the fifth for three runs to retake the lead, 8-7. Spencer had a single, then Richart walked to start the rally. Crawley's two RBI double sent Spencer and Wesley home to tie the score at seven. Richart scored the go ahead and winning run on a wild pitch.

Hillcrest led off the sixth inning with a hit-by-pitch then Cantrell got the next batter to hit into a double play for the first two outs. After a walk and a hit-by-pitch, the final batter hit back to Cantrell for the final out and preserve the victory.

Cantrell was the winning pitcher as he pitched a complete game with eight strikeouts.

On Saturday against Rogers, the Bandits jumped to a 4-0 lead after two innings.

Steven Chuculate gave the Bandits a 1-0 lead when he scored Crawley on a single. Crawley had singled and had advanced to second on a pass ball. Keeton led off the second inning with a triple, then Wesley walked. Richart singed to score Keeton, then Goodnight had a sacrifice fly to score Wesley. Richart scored the final run of the inning on an error.

Rogers got a run in the second inning then scored six more in the third inning for the 7-4 lead. The next three and half innings were scoreless as Rogers came away with the win.

Jarrett Travis was the losing pitcher. He pitched three innings and recorded one strikeout. Sam Hoag went the final three innings and faced nine batters allowing no runs.

The Bandits are now 7-16 for the season and will play Three Rivers Tuesday in a double header at Phoenix Park beginning at 6 p.m.
