Tahlequah's Blake Corn was third in the shot put even at Saturday's OSSAA Class 5A Track & Field State Championships.

Blake Corn finished third in the shot put to highlight Tahlequah’s second day at the OSSAA Class 5A Track & Field State Championships on Saturday at Moore High School.

Corn’s best distance was a 52-08.5, trailing Ardmore’s Brayden Bryant (55-11) and Collinsville’s Zac Robbins (54-02.5) His other results were 49-11.5, 48-03.5, 49-03 and 52-06.

It was the Tigers’ top finish over the two days. As a team, they closed with seven points to finish 24th in the final standings.

Gabe Wardlow also competed in the shot put Saturday and ended with a 43-04.

In other Saturday events, Tate Miller finished 10th in the high jump with a 5-10, and the 4x400 meter relay team (Kobey Baker, Qua’shaun Leathers, Eric Burns and Malik McMurtrey) posted a time of 3:38.57.

The Lady Tigers, who closed in 17th place as a team with 14 points, had a pair of top 10 finishes.

Lily Barnes was seventh in the 100 meter with a 13.11. Barnes ran a 12.79 in Friday’s prelims. Lily Couch ended eighth in the 1600 with a time of 5:41.21.

The Lady Tigers also competed in the 4x400 meter relay. Lola Brownfield, Stella Aldridge, Couch and Barnes combined to post a 4:13.44, good for eighth position overall.

Couch was Tahlequah’s top performer on Friday.

Couch ran a personal record 12:27.86 in the 3200 meter and finished second. The freshman trailed only Tulsa Bishop Kelley’s Tess Crosley, who ended with a 11:59.24. Couch closed strong over the final 200 meters and took two positions on her final lap.

Barnes was also at her career best Friday. Barnes qualified for Saturday’s finals in the 100 meter after sprinting a personal best 12.79 to record the seventh best time of the day.

Kloe Bowin had a top 10 finish in the long jump event. All four of her jumps were better than 15 feet and her final result of 15-10.25 placed her eighth in the standings.

Senior Cole Goodnight was 10th in the long jump, but missed the cut for Saturday’s finals by a half-inch. Goodnight ended with a 20-02. Baker also competed in the long jump and finished 14th at 19-07.25.

Wardlow was eighth in the discus throw with a distance of 137-08.

Neither of Tahlequah’s 4x100 meter relay teams qualified for Saturday’s finals. The Lady Tigers (Brownfield, Aldridge, Barnes and Madison Booth) posted a time of 52.46, and the Tigers (Jaric Hodge, Baker, Dae Dae Leathers and Simeon Armstrong) finished at 44.13.

Dae Dae Leathers was 13th in the prelims of the 100 meter, running an 11.42, Barnes just missed on qualifying in the 200 meter with a time of 26.76, and the Tigers’ 4x800 meter relay team (Burns, Blaine Jones, Eddie Barnes and Cesar Sierra) was 12th with at 9:02.09.
