Hulbert track

James Bruce, Destiny Brave, Channon Rankin, Amaris Keener, Callie Brave and Preston Welch each medaled for Hulbert at Saturday's OSSAA Class 2A Track & Field State Championships.

Preston Welch, James Bruce and the 4x200 girls meter relay team each medaled for Hulbert at Saturday's OSSAA Class 2A State Track & Field Championships held at Western Heights High School in Oklahoma City.

It was a historical season for the Riders and Lady Riders, who had a combined nine individuals reach state -- the most for the programs in the last 25 years.

Welch paced the Riders by finishing second in the shot put event with a result of 45-09.50. The senior trailed only Dalton Johnson's (Caddo) 46-04.50. Welch's distance was a season best with his previous high of a 44-08.75 coming on April 9 at the Oklahoma Baptist University Bison High School Invite in Shawnee.

Bruce had a third-place finish in the long jump with a distance of 20-08.50. Bruce, a junior, followed Fairview's Hayden Johnson (21-04.75) and Minco's Nick Burchfield (20-09.50).

The Lady Riders' 4x200 meter relay team (Destiny Brave, Channon Rankin, Amaris Keener and Callie Brave) clocked a 1:52.93 and ended in third place behind Pawhuska (1:50.14) and Cashion (1:50.41).

Hulbert had three other top 10 finishes. The 4x100 meter relay team (Destiny Brave, Rankin, Keener and Callie Brave) posted a time of 52.70 to place sixth, sophomore Carlie Carey was eighth in the shot put (32-05), and sophomore Kate Settlemyre was 10th in the 3200 meter run with a 13:49.63.

Rankin, a senior, competed in two individual events for the Lady Riders. She was 11th in the long jump (14-06) and 14th in the 100 meter (13.57).

Junior Johnathan Jones also competed in two individual events for the Riders. Jones was 12th in the long jump (18-02.50) and 14th in the high jump (5-08).
