TJHS boys drop to Monte Cassino

TULSA – The Tahlequah seventh grade boys dropped a 41-37 decision to Monte Cassino last Thursday in Tulsa.

“We had a good chance to win if we could hit our free throws,” said head coach Mike Matthews. “With 56 seconds left a Monte Cassino kid got called for a foul and then cursed and drew a technical. We had four free throws but could only hit one. We made six of 15 from the line in the fourth and that cost us the game.

“Otherwise the team played well. The factors of playing with their refs at their gym in front of their fans didn’t help us. We need to find ways to win, but we are improving greatly with each game.”

The Tigers (5-6) were led in scoring by Colin Scarsdale with 19. Kevin Busch scored 8, Quincy McDowell 6 and Jose Winkler 4.

Tahlequah trailed 8-6 at the end of one period, took a one-point lead at the half, 17-16, and found themselves in a tie 26 all tie heading into the final period.
