TOPEKA, Kan. -- Northeastern State closed out the 2019 campaign with a 2-0 loss to Washburn in MIAA baseball action at Falley Field in Topeka, Kansas on Sunday.
NSU outhit the Ichabods, 5-2. Blake Freeman paced the RiverHawks with two hits finishing 2-4 at the plate, Erick Espinosa, Marshall McPherson and Colton Wright each chipped in with a hit.
Getting the starting nod for the RiverHawks was Trevor Smith. Smith held the Ichabods to one hit, allowed one run and fanned seven in six innings of work. Brayden Boyd and Shayne Warren each pitched one inning of relief.
Three errors proved too much to overcome on the afternoon for NSU. The first error allowed Washburn to plate the first run of the contest in the fifth inning and added another run in the seventh to close out the game and series 2-0.
The RiverHawks finish the 2019 season with a 12-36 record and 9-23 in the MIAA.
