DURANT– It may have been too little, too late for Northeastern State's baseball team. However, the Redmen ended the 2006 campaign by taking two of three games from Southeastern Oklahoma State here this weekend. NSU swept the Savage Storm, 7-2 and 5-1, on Saturday before losing a 5-1 decision in the finale on Sunday.

Northeastern ended the year at 16-40 overall and 8-17 in Lone Star North action. SOSU, which qualified for the league tournament as the No. 6 seed, was only 25-27 and 14-11.

On Sunday, SOSU scored all five runs in the first four innings and limited the Redmen to just one run. Yet, NSU out hit the home team 12-7 and stranded 13 runners on base.

Cody Cisper took the loss and fell to 3-11. Offensively, Eric Humphrey had three hits in five plate appearances to lead NSU's offensive attack. The Owasso senior singled twice, doubled and scored the only Redmen run in the fourth frame.

On Saturday, Hector Morales homered twice and drove in four runs to lead the Redmen past SOSU. Morales, also a senior, hit his sixth home run of the year in the opener, a solo shot, as NSU scored all the runs it needed in the first two innings. The Redmen plated three runs in the first and two in the second for a 5-0 lead as Daniel Roebuck tossed a 7-hit, complete game to finish his campaign at 2-3. Nash Garcia also provided three hits in the opener and Joe Jennett had two RBI.

The nightcap was mostly over after the second inning as well as Northeastern scored twice in its first at-bat and Morales drove in three runs with his seventh homer of the year, in a three-run second. David Curlee scattered six hits and picked up his first win of the year against two losses. Eight Redmen had a hit each, including freshman Zach Hamby, who also homered in the second game.
