TAHLEQUAH -- Lamont George scored 17 points Wednesday night, but his 28-footer with just :41 to play was the game-breaker as Northeastern State rallied past Cameron, 64-61, at Dobbins Field House in a men's Lone Star North Division game.

Just seconds earlier, Sid Melvin put the Redmen (14-10 and 4-5) ahead for good with another trey that turned a 58-56 deficit into a 59-58 lead. NSU was able to make enough free throws down the stretch to preserve the victory and stay alive in the hunt for a postseason tournament berth. Cameron fell to 11-13 and 1-8.

After shooting just 31 percent from the field in the opening half, NSU's fortunes reversed dramatically with a 16-for-24 effort (.667) in the final 20 minutes. The Aggies were held to 37 percent on the night but held a 26-23 margin at halftime.

Behind Matt Reid's play early in the second period, Cameron forged an 11 point lead twice, 36-25 and 41-30. However, NSU responded with a 9-0 spurt to cut its deficit to 43-42 midway through the stanza as the Aggies shooting woes began to surface and the Redmen parlayed three turnovers into points.

Arthur Trousdell hit a layup and Reid added a bucket and trey on the next three trips up the floor as Cameron rebuilt a 54-46 edge with just under seven minutes left.

Once again, though, the Redmen answered with a Jeremiah Turner bucket and four points from Pat Moore to pull to within 54-52 with 5:11 to go.

The rest of the way the game was a two-possession affair. Marlon Bernard's layup put Cameron in front 58-52 at the 3:53 mark, but that was the Aggies' final basket of the contest as Reid added just three charity tosses for CU's final scoring.

Reid had a double-double with 22 points and 10 rebounds to pace the Aggies, but was only six-of-20 from the floor, and Trousdell had 13.

Behind George’s 17 point effort, Moore added 12 and Melvin chipped in 10. Turner led the Redmen with seven caroms.

Northeastern State will journey to Weatherford on Saturday to meet Southwestern Oklahoma State at 4 p.m. The Redmen will close out the regular season with a home game on Wednesday, Feb. 22, against East Central before playing at Southeastern Oklahoma State on Saturday, Feb. 26. Both games tip at 8 p.m.
